Please Help Me Choose a Worthy Computer Desk Chair

I am in the market for a good computer desk chair. I mean one like Chris Pirillo has in his office — the Grahl Synchron 8, which apparently is not sold publicly anymore. I could do without that crazy price, though. ;)

I am looking for full body support to help keep my back as pain free as possible. My sciatic nerve is really irritating me. I am willing to spend a pretty fair amount for a chair that will keep me comfortable and pain free.

Some others I am considering are:

The Kneelsit

The Mirra

The Aeron

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

The Aeron – after a decade of hard use, mine is just fine.

I think the Aeron, Mirra (and other Miller chairs) would be too stiff for someone with sciatic issues. My lengthy intensive search led me to buy my new chair from Relax the Back. It was $1,300 (for the floor model) – and worth every penny. I have had lower back, hip, sciatic and neck pain issues. I’m a designer/coder spending at least 10 hours a day every day in this chair. I chose the Lifeform Ultimate Mid-Back in the Dream Weave fabric. It has memory foam that is beyond comfortable. Plenty of adjustments that are easy to maneuver. They also have an extended seat option to give your hips extra room.

I sat in the Miller chairs they had there – and there was no comparison. After a couple of days in it, my lower back pain stopped waking me up at night. It’s been 2 months and all painful areas are improved. I only wonder what took so long.

You’re welcome! Your tip about the MacBook Pro disc cleaner saved me $$ today. BTW – I meant I wonder what took *me* so long to finally spend the money on what is a vital piece of furniture in my home. Good luck finding the right one!

  9. the desk chairs that our mom use are always leather based instead of using cloth covers..~

  10. when using desk chairs, i would always prefer to use wood instead of plastic desk chairs :`:

Rather than spending a fortune for a chair that has 100 different settings and adjustments, find a chair that has no adjustments, but fits you out of the box as is. It will be cheaper and last longer.

I like the generic big, black, leather “president” chairs. There are all kinds of these, and you just need to visit some stores and sit in them until you find one that works for your body.

Anyone who spends quite a few hours glued to chair would know how restless one gets due to backaches and fatigue. If you are some who spends most of waking hours at the desk you must agree to buy a desk chair that cares for your physical health so that you work in peace. It is actually very detrimental for work productivity if one is constantly haunted by pains in various regions of body. Since, a chair is a serves as home for all the people at work, one must try quite a few chairs before making a purchase. A chair does much more than providing a place to sit. Ideally, a chair must take care of the health of the person who sits over it for more than usual hours. Human body is curvilinear so how can a stiff straight chair adjust to its demands at first place? A chair that does not care for the contours of human body is definitely not an appropriate one.’,
